Welcome to Dramasoc in 2010!
This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for Dramasoc - we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of our student-written one act play festival 3SOME, we are considering another Christmas show after the overwhelming success of last year's THE EIGHT: REINDEER MONOLOGUES, he have some sneaky plans for workshops up our sleeves and we'll be presenting a contemporary play half way through the year.
First up, though, is the largest production we have staged for a number of years, a full blown Shakespearean zombie comedy for Orientation 2010:
MacBeth Re-Arisen
We've always felt frustrated by the fact that at the end of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth the title character is killed by Macduff in spite of the prophecy that claims he cannot be killed by any of woman born. Well, what if that wasn’t the end of the story?
In MACBETH RE-ARISEN the curse of the Weird Sisters has kept Macbeth from meeting his doom. Instead, he is 'rearisen' as an undead lord and charged with raising an army of zombie minions with which to conquer Scotland. Egged on by his jealous, decomposing wife, our murderous, brain-craving antihero sets out on his mission, unaware that his erstwhile nemesis, Macduff, is journeying to the underworld in search of the means by which to defeat him.
The play, written by Australian playwright, David Mence, is written in iambic pentameter and was a smash hit at the 2006 Edinburgh Fringe Festival for White Whale Theatre. It premiered at the Guild Theatre, the University of Melbourne, 2004.
The show will be running every night at 7:30pm from Monday 22 February - Saturday 27 February 2010 as part of the Orientation Festival, with a matinee at 2:30pm on the Saturday. Ticket prices tbc.
